UMW Toyota Motor has announced two recalls that involves the replacement of airbags and engine valve springs. Needless to say, these are important components so should be given high priority, if you own vehicles involved in this recall.

Airbag inflator
Cue Takata. But the difference is that the vehicles involved – totalling around 2,300 Toyota models manufactured from 2001 to 2003 – were already part of a previous Takata airbag inflator recall between 2013-2014. In this current campaign, those airbag inflators will be replaced with a further improved airbag inflator components.

The particular model involved is the Vios manufactured from May to July 2003, Toyota Corolla Altis made from July 2001 to June 2003, and Toyota Camry manufactured from June 2002 to March 2003. A total of 2400 vehicles are involved.

Engine valve spring replacement
Around 120 units of the Toyota 86 model is involved, and made from year 2012 to 2013. The recall is regarding potential fracture of valve springs due to exceeded fatigue strength. If a fracture does happen, it may cause the engine to stall while driving and unable to be restarted. You may remember a similar recall for the sister car, the BRZ.
