Puspakom is organising a Voluntary Vehicle Inspection campaign in anticipation of the upcoming Hari Raya festivities when millions of vehicles will ply the road during the holidays. Held as the company’s social responsibility in ensuring vehicles are in suitable condition for the road, the campaign will be on for 10 days starting 24 May to 2 June 2019 and available at all 54 Puspakom vehicle inspection centres nationwide (except for Shah Alam, Pasir Gudang, and Lahad Datu which will concentrate on heavy vehicles only).

According to statistics provided by Puspakom, up to 51 per cent of private-owned vehicles that undergo inspection (including voluntary check-ups) do not meet the necessary standards.

The most common failure in meeting the required level is for the braking system (35 per cent), followed by the side-slip test (30 per cent), and emissions (10 per cent). Negative results in the first two tests are a big concern because vehicles with brakes that do not perform well and fails the side-slip test are more exposed to getting involved in an accident.

There are 25 other tests during the inspection which includes for tyres, suspension, film tint and undercarriage. Owners can then use the inspection results published by Puspakom as reference when sending their vehicle for repairs. The test costs RM50 although this is waived during this campaign. In fact, Puspakom will donate RM2 to selected charity homes for every vehicle that comes in for voluntary vehicle inspection campaign.

Puspakom’s mobile unit will also be deployed during this programme, and they will visit selected locations as listed below:
