The world’s appetite for sporty vehicles is as big as ever with Porsche AG reporting a six per cent growth in vehicle deliveries in the first nine months of 2018. This amounts to 196,562 units compared to 2017’s 185,898, with Europe being the liveliest market and its nine per cent increase translating to 66,551 units.

Germany proves to be the strongest in this region after a delivery of 24,709 vehicles or a very healthy increase of 13 per cent.

The rest of the world showed a smaller per centage increase in sales; the Americas for example had a four per cent increase (from 50,386 to 52,417 units), and the USA alone taking 42,626 vehicles. That’s a boost of three per cent after 2017’s sales performance (in the same period) with 41,237.

China, the largest single market for Porsche, saw 54,090 deliveries in 2017 increase to 56,254, which translates to a four per cent increase. As for Asia Pacific, including the African and Middle East markets, Porsche delivered 77,594 vehicles, up four per cent over 2017’s 74,674 units.

Porsche says the model with the biggest percentage increase in sales is the Panamera with a whopping 60 per cent, no doubt due to the better, latest generation model. Also significant is the 911 with an increase of 19 per cent; not bad for a generation-model that’s very near its shelf life. The best seller, however, is still the Macan compact SUV. Porsche delivered 68,050 units from January to September 2018, while the Cayenne number is 49,715.

Porsche’s next challenge is the new WLTP test cycle standard and removal of diesel models from the company’s line-up. “There are a number of significant challenges that await us in the fourth quarter, and we will take proactive steps to ensure that we face up to them successfully. This includes the changeover to the new WLTP test cycle and petrol particulate filters and the farewell to diesel engines,” says Detlev von Platen, member of the executive board for sales and marketing, Porsche AG.

“The new emissions legislation has been in force in Europe since 1st September. The launch of new models will be staggered after the changeover. At Porsche, this will start with models from the two-door 911 and 718 Sports Car series as well as the new Macan, which was presented at the Paris Motor Show last week.
