Porsche rolls out classic liveries for Le Mans

With just a couple of weeks to go until the start of the Le Mans 24 Hours, Porsche has revealed that two of the four factory 911 RSRs it’s entering in this year’s race will wear liveries that hark back to the Seventies and Eighties.

Car #91, which will be driven by Gianmaria Bruni, Richard Lietz and Frédéric Makowiecki, will sport a Rothmans-type livery as seen on the 959 that won the Paris-Dakar in 1986, as well as the many-time Le Mans-winning 956 and 962.

The #92 car, meanwhile, has been designed to look like the ‘Pink Pig’ 917 that raced at Le Mans in 1971. It will be driven by Kévin Estre, Michael Christensen and Laurens Vanthoor. The other two cars will wear Porsche’s usual black, white and red livery.

Remember, these 911s are the only cars Porsche is entering this year, after it cancelled its LMP1 programme not long after winning last year’s race. Six more will be entered by private teams, taking the total to 10 and giving Porsche a shot at taking a win in one of the GTE categories.
