More news from the local two-wheeled front, this time involving celebrated Italian brand Aprilia as it marks a changing of its guard so to speak.

Things began when current importer and distributor, Naza Premira Sdn Bhd, announced the release of the Aprilia brand from its operations from July 31st onwards. The move reportedly came following a mutual agreement between the frim and principals Piaggio Group Asia Pacific.

One of the many subsidiaries under the vast umbrella of local conglomerate Naza Group, Naza Premira Sdn Bhd had served the role of official importer and distributor for Piaggio’s Aprilia brand since 2010, charting plenty of milestones throughout. However, of late, things weren’t as great as it once was.

Then came Didi Resources Sdn Bhd’s appointment as Aprilia’s new Malaysian custodian by principals Piaggio Group shortly thereafter. The firm is no stranger to the field, serving the same role of official importer and distributor for Aprilia’s sister brand Moto Guzzi since 2017.

With its appointment, which takes affect from August 1st onwards, Didi Resources Sdn Bhd plans to open a new Aprilia sales and service centre located within the grounds of Petaling Jaya’s famed The Gasket Alley soon, likely just next to Moto Guzzi’s Malaysian base.

Besides that, Didi Resources Sdn Bhd are also planning a series of activities and service support campaigns to bolster its brand-building efforts. In short, current Aprilia customers need not worry about after-sales support whilst prospects have something to look forward to indeed.

Despite this transition, Naza Premira Sdn Bhd will still serve current Aprilia customers with after sales, service, spare parts and warranty until September 30th. The firm also keenly noted its commitment for continued efforts towards its two remaining brands, those being Vespa and Piaggio.

In light of its appointment, the folks at Didi Resources Sdn Bhd recently held a small get-together of local Aprilia owners ahead of its announcement too. The bridge-building effort saw 70 owners in attendance to meet with the firm’s chairman Rewi Hamid Bugo and General Manager, Juan Chow Wee.

The small soiree also the introduction of Idon Pang as the Head of After Sales for GB Workshop (the authorised Aprilia Service Centre) where he gave his assurance that the workshop will go at full capacity in supporting the current database of Aprilia owners & to expand the brand’s dealer network.

At present, Aprilia’s got a sleuth of exciting models to offer globally. Leading the charge is of course its flagship superbike offering the RSV4, followed by other highlights such as the Tuono V4 1100, Dorsoduro 900 and Shiver 900.
