Mazda has announced that the world premiere of the MX-5 Miata 30th Anniversary Edition will be held at the Chicago Auto Show which opens to the public from 7 February to 18 February. No doubt that will be a significant event considering the iconic status of the nameplate, but why the Chicago Auto Show of all places.

It all comes down to history – this was the event where the original MX-5 made its debut back in 1989. The 30th-anniversary special edition was created as an expression of appreciation for the customers all over the world who have supported the success of the model over the last 30 years.

Sure Mazda, that’s cute but what we want to know is what the MX-5 Miata 30th Anniversary Edition is about. Unfortunately for you and me, that’s a card Mazda is still keeping close to its chest, urm we mean engine block – no teasers! At least not yet. Full details from Chicago in February, then.
