We hope there’s still room for more Civic FK8 Type R stuffs in your appetite for all things Type R because Honda has decided to set new lap time benchmarks at iconic European tracks using the hatchback. You’ll probably remember that they’ve already done this in 2016 using the previous Type R at Silverstone, Spa, Monza, Estoril, and Hungaroring.

This time around, all the same tracks except Monza will be in the focus again, on top of new venues that will be announced later. Naturally, the aim is to set faster times.

Honda will need the services of some fast drivers, then. And they’ve got quite a few already, with former F1 world champion Jenson Button being the most high profile. The Briton is also one of Honda’s factory GT500 drivers in the 2018 season of Super GT. Others include Tiago Monteiro (Portugal), Esteban Guerrieri (Argentina), and another NSX Super GT driver Bertrand Baguette (Belgium).

And in case you are wondering – no, this project does not involve this crazy-looking machine, because the front-wheel drive production time attack plan involves only the road car.
