We live in a funny age don’t we? It’s as if the idea of buying and owning a car all to yourself isn’t, well, convenient anymore, thus brewing homegrown start-up car-sharing app GoCar the chance to fill this new type of mobility demand in Malaysia.

On that note, the local app today celebrated its 100th pick up point with partners Shell Malaysia. The occasion was marked in a special press presentation and ceremony held in the Shell Taman Connaught Station, Cheras earlier today.

Present here was GoCar’s CEO Alan Cheah and Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd’s managing director Shairan Huzani Husain. “Our collaboration with GoCar is the first of its kind, and it enables us to offer all Malaysian an additional service under one roof,” said the latter during the ceremony today.

GoCar, which began operations in April 2017, is present in five states – Selangor, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Kedah, Johore and Penang. The app now boasts over 230 pick up locations situated across the Klang Valley, Johor Bahru, Penang and Langkawi; and over 25,000 registered members to date since operations began.

The app’s partnership with Shell has proven fruitful thus far. GoCar now has over 100 cars ready to be picked up at these 100 Shell stations. Of them, 58 stations are located across the Klang Valley alone, followed by another 30 stations in the southern capital of Johor Bahru plus 12 stations in Penang.

Available on both the Apple App Store (for iOS) and Google Play Store (for Android), the GoCar app works by allowing users to rent cars by the hour or day. Bookings for these cars are done through the app itself whilst choices include several vehicle types such as sedans, crossover SUVs, MPVs and even pick-up trucks.

To celebrate today’s milestone, both GoCar and Shell are rewarding customers at selected Shell stations with a special promotion from Oct 16 to Dec 15 2018. Just spend a minimum of RM5 (excluding Touch ‘n Go and mobile reloads, and tobacco) to enjoy a discount of up to 50% on GoCar bookings (capped at RM30).

Additionally, customers can redeem one can of Coca-Cola at RM1.50 when picking up their GoCar at these Shell stations as well.
