Living in Britain and worried importing a supercar is a mere two months away from becoming a fair bit harder? Worry not, because there’s a new, all-British alternative on the way. Hooray!

Ginetta – who you may know from the little G40 racecar – has announced it’s developing a new, 600bhp-plus, carbon tubbed and bodied supercar that’ll be designed and manufactured in-house at its Leeds base.

Its power will come from a ‘race-derived’, naturally aspirated V8, driving the rear wheels through a sequential transmission, Ginetta citing its successful G55 GT4 racecar – of which nearly 400 have been built – as evidence of its credibility.

Indeed, the car in the teaser sketches above looks a very similar shape to the G55, albeit with some wilder aero going on up front. Much wilder.

“This is not another supercar from a car company: this is a supercar from a top-tier motorsport manufacturer,” reads an initial statement.

“In the 1960s our G10 was a giant killer on and off the track, regularly beating Jaguar E-Types,” adds Ginetta chairman Lawrence Tomlinson. “Sixty years on, we’re again applying knowledge and technology from our racing programmes to build an uncompromised yet utterly capable road-going supercar.”
