Energica unveils new electric motor for bikes - 169hp!

By sep, 30 June 2021

Energica Motorcycles has unveiled its latest EMCE electric motor which represents their future in the EV two-wheel offering that offers greater power and performance than ever. The EMCE motor or Energica Mavel Co-Engineering is a joint-venture product between Energica and Italy's electronics R&D tech firm, Mavel.

The two powerhouses of tech collaborated to develop this new electric motor which will be offered exclusively on the upcoming range of Energica electric motorcycles. Set to be released in 2022, the EMCE motor is a super-enhanced version of any of the current offerings available at Energica. The focus is of its entire design is to minimise energy losses while outputting as much power as possible.

Designed with innovative rotor and stator geometries, the EMCE electric motor is able to generate 126kW at 8,500rpm (around 169hp) even with a reduced mass and weight of about 10kg compared to its predecessor. It also comes with liquid-cooling capabilities to help cool down the internal parts to further extract some added benefits when travelling at high speeds.

According to Giampiero Testoni, CTO of Energica Motor Company S.p.A., "Innovation is the main strength of our technical department which, together with Mavel, has found the perfect collaboration to push the limits of current technology, further improving an already high-performing product. The introduction on the market of the new EMCE engine was scheduled for release in 2022, but following the difficulties of our supply chain – due to the global pandemic situation – we decided to anticipate this timing and instead, in just 6 months we have developed this co-engineering with Mavel, into our current model year production."

One thing is for sure, we can't wait to see how this baby will perform in next year's FIM MotoE World Cup, also referred to as MotoGP's all-electric race category. The races in the past few years have already been quite 'spicy', so a little more power and performance would certainly take things up a few notches.
