(UPDATED) 2018 BMW F850 GS previewed

BMW Motorrad Malaysia looks set to welcome the revised-for-2018 BMW F850 GS middleweight dual-sport model soon. The bike was recently previewed during another installment of the BMW Motorrad Nightfuel event held in Johore last weekend.

Essentially, this is an upgraded replacement of the BMW F800 GS model packed with new and upgraded features plus a mild nip-tuck. At the heart of things is a revised and larger 853cc parallel-twin cylinder mill that now boasts higher power and torque figures.

The mill features a crankshaft with a 90-degree journal offset, a 270/450 degree firing interval, and two counterbalance shafts. As a result, power has increased by 10hp to 95hp whilst torque now stands at 92Nm – up from 83Nm.

Both are sent to the rear wheel via a six-speed transmission and chain-drive setup, the former now equipped with a slipper clutch feature too.

Built to go on and off the black the top, the F850 GS does the latter thanks to several notable features such as its high-travel 43mm USD (Upside Down) telescopic front forks plus a fully adjustable rear shock offering 204mm and 209mm of travel respectively; as well as the 21-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel and tyre setup.

What’s welcoming here is the F850 GS’s new 6.5-inch TFT full-colour LCD instrument display panel. This kit also boasts optional BMW Connectivity module that lets riders link up their smartphones and enable a host of other functions such as call answering and music playback control amongst others.

Of course, in typical BMW Motorrad fashion, the F850 GS comes standard-equipped with ABS and ASC (Automatic Stability Control) features plus two selectable ride modes – Road and Rain. Opt for the optional and three more rides modes are added, those being Dynamic, Enduro and Enduro Pro the latter two turning this bike into a true off-roader.

Besides three colour scheme options, BMW Motorrad Malaysia will also ready a variety of upgrade packages for the F850 GS when it’s officially launched sometime next month where this bike’s official retail prices will be revealed too.
