Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s Dream Car Collection adds another member – the E-Class Coupe, in two variants of E200 AMG Line and E300 AMG Line. Any car that is introduced just a day after this car would likely admit defeat in terms of presence and in the looks department, however the E-Class Coupe holds its own rather well.

And additional E300 Coupe with Edition 1 trim provides even more exclusivity; included with the Night Package that features 20-inch AMG light alloys and matte-style white magno paint.

It is based on the current-gen W213 E-Class platform, although the proportions for this car perhaps best represent the line-up, as coupes usually do. It has a mesmerising profile, with that long bonnet plus powerdome and somewhat slimmer greenhouse with rear-biased shape proving to be the best design elements. A 15mm lower vehicle height adds to the more agile and sporty appearance.

The Multibeam LED headlamps (and tail lamps) has a neat welcoming function party trick. When unlocked, the rear-end LEDs illuminate successively from the centre of the vehicle outwards, and moves in the opposite direction when locked.

The sporty look of the outside turns to the futuristic dashboard the W213 E-Class is already known for. You just have to admire the massive two colour displays – a pair of 31.2cm (1920 x 720 pixel) displays that stands side-by-side to dominate the interior.

Drivers get to control the instrument cluster and multimedia system via touch control buttons on the steering wheel, totally intuitive. There is also a touchpad controller on the centre console that actually recognises handwriting.

The new E-Class Coupe comes with Agility Control suspension with passive selective damping as standard equipment.

Safety features include Active Brake Assist which is able to warn the driver of an possible collision before applying emergency braking autonomously. The system not only recognises stationary or slower moving vehicles, pedestrians are also detectable if they enter the Coupe’s danger zone.

Powering the cars are the same 4-cylinder 2.0-litre force-fed engine that makes 184hp/300Nm (E200 Coupe AMG Line) and 245hp/370Nm for the E300 AMG Line. Standstill to the century takes just 7.8 seconds and 6.4 seconds respectively.  Average combined fuel consumption is claimed to be 6.0L/100km for the E200 Coupe and 6.4L/100km for the E300 Coupe.

Price for the former is RM435,888 while the E300 Coupe is RM499,888. The limited-worldwide-to-just-555-units E 300 Edition 1 costs RM534,888.
