Features R.S. Drive Mode, four-wheel-steering and turbo + DCT powertrain combo
Remember this true blue French hatch that was previewed locally late last year? Well, you can now place your orders for the new Renault Megane GT with Renault Malaysia (TC Euro Cars) as the firm quietly opened up the order books for the model this month.
We were at the Renault PJ Showroom earlier today where we took the opportunity to have a closer look at this fourth generation iteration of the successful Megane hatch. It may not be the full-blown RenaultSport (R.S.) hot hatch, but this GT variant still packs plenty of goodies to sate the needs and tastes of many.
On the outset, it’s plain to see Renault’s designers have gone to town in making this hatch look good. There’s the brand’s signature new LED DRLs + headlamps combo and bold grille design up front. Couple that with the 17-inch alloys it rolls on and sporty rear diffuser at the back, it makes for one very modern and sporty looking hatch indeed.
Underneath the hood is a perky powertrain package. Leading the bill is a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder heart that outputs 205PS and 280Nm – the latter from 2,400rpm onwards. Managing both to the front wheels is Renault’s 7-speed EDC dual-clutch auto box that grants a 7.1-second 0-100kph sprint time and 230kph top speed.
Inside, the Megane GT’s cabin boasts a pair of racy R.S. semi bucket front seats, a neat new 7-inch R-Link 2 capacitive TFT touchscreen infotainment unit paired with an Arkamys 3D hi-fi setup, dual-zone automatic climate control, as well as keyless start amongst others.
Of course, that’s not all that this fully imported (CBU) premium hatch has to offer. There are other neat features such as the Multi-Sense selectable drive modes featuring sporty ‘R.S. Drive’ mode, followed by six airbags lining the cabin, all-round disc brakes supplemented with ABS + EBD + EBA, not forgetting stability (ESC) and traction control suites too.
By the way, the Megane GT comes brimmed with Renault’s 4Control four-wheel-steering system as well. Coupled with the aforementioned R.S. Mode, it promises greater agility and driving excitement over its peers.
All in all, this premium hatch is indeed on par against its peers in all areas, but some would argue that it may be a tad too expensive. Renault Malaysia has priced the Megane GT at RM228,000 sans insurance and registration costs.
Said price includes a 3-year or 100,000km warranty (whichever comes first). Cost optional extras include a Trunk tray priced at RM200, followed by the choice of four window tint packages priced between RM1,049 and RM4,436.
