Watch Kenny Brack wrestle the P1 LM up Goodwood hillclimb in record time
You might remember that at last year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, a Swedish chap called Kenny Brack (a former Indy 500 winner) drove a road-legal McLaren P1 LM up the hill in the frankly ridiculous time of 47.07 seconds. It’s the fastest time ever recorded by a road-legal car, beating the previous record (a Nissan GT-R Nismo) by a little over two seconds.
Brack’s run looked impressive enough from the outside, but Goodwood’s just released the on-board footage. You must watch it immediately. We know from videos like this that Brack is, to put it lightly, a talented chap, but watching him thread the LM up the tight, twisty and bumpy Goodwood Hill is quite something.
The P1 LM is effectively a road-going version of the P1 GTR. It’s the work of Lanzante, the same company that campaigned the F1 at Le Mans in 1995. No air jacks and lighter seats mean it’s 60kg lighter than a ‘regular’ P1 GTR, and because Lanzante has had a play with the aero, it produces 40 per cent more downforce. The 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 and electric motors give 986bhp. Quite a thing, then…
