128 units of Pajero manufactured from 2010 to 2014 involved. Recalls also issued for ASX and Pajero Sport, but for other reasons
According to Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM), there are 128 units of Pajero Exceed in the country that were manufactured from 2010 to 2014 which needs to have the driver airbag inflators replaced. If deployed, the airbag may shoot metal fragments into the driver's face and torso which in turn can cause serious injuries. It may even be fatal. So yes. The airbag was made by Takata.
“Safety is our utmost priority thus MMM is taking this initiative to assure customer’s safety and regrets the inconvenience caused to the affected customers. This effort is to enable the replacement of the driver airbag inflator with improved inflators,” said Tomoyuki Shinnishi, Chief Executive Officer of MMM.
There are other ‘field fix’ announcements too. First is for the ASX (manufactured from 2010 to 2015) and Pajero Sport (manufactured from 2010 to 2016) and involves the tailgate gas spring component. MMM wants to replace the gas spring which is defective due to insufficient anti-corrosion coating.
The other campaign is for the ASX Compact SUV wiper motor, whereby possible water intrusion may result in corrosion to the internal parts of the wiper motor and cause it to cease.
MMM will issue notification letters to all affected Mitsubishi owners and the full cost of the replacement will be borne by the company.
MMM kindly request all affected customers to make an appointment at any of the Mitsubishi Motors authorised service centres for the replacement of the above.
