Hamilton now has a three point advantage over Rosberg who was forced to retire due to its gearshift electronics problems - 241 to 238.

This marks Hamilton's seventh win for this season and his 29th Formula One win. It is the first time Hamilton has been ahead of the German in the standings since the Spanish Grand Prix back in May.

As with previous wins, Mercedes's triumph in Singapore gave the team's many sponsors reason to celebrate. This is especially true for Singaporean-based YHI Group, which supplies wheels to the team via its Advanti Racing brand.

With Mercedes leading the Constructors' Championship with 479 points, the 'home victory' for YHI Group, and a sterling performance nonetheless for the Formula One leaders on a whole, is crucial as it brings the team within touching distance of this year's trophy.
