Final LaFerrari Aperta auctioned for charity – €8.3 million

cover

The highlight of the Ferrari auction held in conjunction with the brand’s 70th anniversary has been sold – for a generous 8.3 million Euros. We use that adjective (generous) because the entire amount from this particular LaFerrari Aperta will be for heading to charity, in this case being Save the Children.

Witnessing this part of the auction – as the very last car for the day – after watching a few Dino, 250 GT, 365 and others being sold for healthy amounts is a rather surreal moment. Especially when the car itself was not present as it has not been built yet.

The car is the 210th LaFerrari Aperta which in that sense makes it more special than the already special and previously limited-to-209 units. Only a dozen interested parties participated in the short-yet-intense bidding process.

We’re told that the winning 8.3 million Euro bid is roughly double what it would sell for, but considering that it is for charity, the amount is sensible. Save the Children will use the money for educational projects in Asia and Africa.

This is the second LaFerrari that has been auctioned off by Ferrari for charity. In December 2016, a 500th unit of the hypercar – although this one is a non-Aperta – was built by order of Marchionne (it was originally limited to 499 units only) and sold for 7 million Euros. That money went to the rebuilding process of Italy after its 6.2-magnitude earthquake that year.
