The Ferrari Portofino may be all the rage at the moment. But like all global launches, the successor to the California T won’t be here for another few months at least. What’s already here is its big brother, the Ferrari 812 Superfast.

The Ferrari 812 Superfast succeeds the F12 Berlinetta as Maranello’s V12 flagship supercar. Limited-run models like the LaFerrari aside, the 812 Superfast is the most powerful car Ferrari has ever built – its front-mounted 6.5-litre V12 engine capable of delivering 789bhp and 718Nm of torque exclusively to the rear wheels via a seven-speed F1 DCT (dual-clutch transmission). All of this translates to a specific output of 121bhp per litre, which supersedes all front mid-engined Ferraris that preceded the 812 Superfast.

You’re probably more interested in the performance figures by now, and there are no disappointments here. Flat out, the Ferrari 812 Superfast will smash the 100kph barrier in only 2.9 seconds from a standstill. Keep the throttle floored and you’ll hit 200kph in 7.9 seconds en-route to the 812’s top speed of 340kph. Ferrari claims that these figures were achieved with RON98 fuel, and we all know who the sole supplier of RON98 in Malaysia is…

Bigger and better powertrain aside, a lot of thought has also been put into the Ferrari 812 Superfast’s aerodynamics. A cluster of cleverly directed air ducts and active flaps on both ends of the car giving it 10 percent more downforce than the Ferrari F12.

A wise man once said with great power comes great responsibility, and Ferrari has gotten the latter covered with technologies such as SSC5 (Side Slip Control), ESP 9.1 (Electronic Stability Program) and SCM-E electronic damper control to keep the 1,630kg RWD scorcher in check. There’s even rear-wheel steering in the list of fancy electronics, which is similar in theory to the system offered in the new Lamborghini Aventador S.

Naturally, a car with this degree of performance and engineering isn’t going to be cheap. Prices for the Ferrari 812 Superfast in Malaysia start from RM1,578,800, but this is before duties and customisation costs are factored in. All in, the on-the-road price could easily be double that amount, but we could be wrong. Why don’t you buy one and let us know?
